A little more functionality for Adobe Photoshop (CC 2020)

Hi guys,
I use Photoshop a lot and some shortcuts are hard to use or not available at all, so I changed them to my taste with the following script.

You need AutoHotkey (https://www.autohotkey.com/) to run the Script and it only works if the english language is activated in Photoshop.
I used Laszlos' "morse() Code" (https://autohotkey.com/board/topic/15574-morse-find-hotkey-press-and-hold-patterns/) to change them.

Update: 1st big one (v1.5 - Nov 15, 2020) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------:
I cleaned up the script a bit and changed some funtionality,
  • Updated, added or removed a few hotkeys
  • Non-Photoshop relevant code has been removed
  • Fixed other stuff
  • Adapted it for the next update:
  1. In addition, more complex hotkeys will be created, such as situation based shortcuts or hotkeys with key sequences, such asSPACE and T, then i for toggle Information Panelt for toggle Tools Panel...
Added Shortcuts
  • > Change Foreground Color *
  • < Change Background Color * "
NOTICE: *maybe you need to cuztomize it on non de_DE Keyboards
d 2x Delete Layer
  • Ctrl + Z Step Backwards (Undo was changed to Step Backward)
  • Win and Y Fill in value for 50% grey
  • Win and x In textbox, reset Value to 0
  • 1 (Numpad) 1x Layer: Isolate (make other invisible)
  • Alt and Space Hide current Layer (Select first)
  • H 3x Filter: HSB/HSL
  • 2 (Numpad) 1x Load Selection from Channel: RGB
  • 3 (Numpad) 2x Load Selection from Channel: Red
  • 4 (Numpad) 2x Load Selection from Channel: Green
  • 5 (Numpad) 2x Load Selection from Channel: Blue
  • K 1x (hold) Load Selection from Channel: RGB
  • .. 1x Load Selection from Channel: Red
  • .. 2x Load Selection from Channel: Green
  • .. 3x Load Selection from Channel: Blue
NOTICE: for more Information, search for 'Check Layers' on Youtube
Space and h Toggle Panel: History
  • m 2x Add Layer Mask (reweal)
  • m 2xi, then n Add Layer Mask (hide)

Rewritten Shortcuts:
; I rewrote the 'Space Zoom', now you can zoom up to 500% with the following hotkeys
  • Space: 1x Zoom: 0-99%: zoom to 100% // >=100%: Fit to Window
  • 2x Zoom: 100%
  • 2x then 1 Zoom: 100%
  • 2x then 2 Zoom: 200%
  • 2x then 3 Zoom: 300%
  • 2x then 4 Zoom: 400%
  • 2x then 5 Zoom: 500%
NOTICE: It takes a little time to learn how to use the shortcuts, but now it is more logical,
better to use, the script is more readable and you can better add new hotkeys.

Between the space key and the number keys you have to wait ca 1 second,
just try and practice a little

If you have more ideas, keep them coming ;-)

Ok guys, have fun with the script and maybe you can add some more stuff ;-) I will probably help you if I can, maybe you also have some more tips ;-) .

Crash Bandicoot 4 broke me.

I know this probably isn't the place but, I feel like I need to vent somewhere so. I guess this is the place.
So.... when I was a kid, I never really got my own games. I’d usually just watch my brothers play, and eventually they would be passed down and I would play them, as sloppy seconds I suppose. I was usually the Tails of the games, just sorta never really playing it properly, but wanting to feel involved.
Crash Bandicoot was the first game I played which, felt like it was my own game. I played it first, I finished it before anyone else, it was my thing which felt special to me. And that carried on throughout the series. Crash 2, love it, 3, probably my favorite at the time. Heck, I even liked Wrath of Cortex as a kid to some extent, loved Twinsanity too. I like most Crash games really, even the Mutant games, whilst not really what people wanted, are well made competent games with some fun moments.
What I’m saying is, there’s not many Crash games I don’t like to some extent. But that has changed. I think I hate Crash Bandicoot 4. And as sad as it sounds, it’s actually made me feel pretty depressed accepting that fact. Remakes are nice but THIS was the game I was waiting for. Dreaming of. And now, I’m left questioning why I ever liked Crash in the first place. It’s that kind of game.
So where do we start? Well, the game starts off pretty good, the level design is alright, solid at times. I really don’t have too many complaints for say, the first half of the game or so. I think if you just play through the game, absolutely zero intent on getting the crates, or relics, or any of the other collectables. You’ll probably have an ok time. And in hindsight, I wish I did the same thing.
But the MOMENT you decide to do anything further than the bare minimal, the game just falls apart.
Starting with the crates, in the original titles, getting all the crates is more so, a natural challenge. If you played well, kept your eyes open and generally went out with the intent of getting all the crates, you’d more than likely, get all the crates. And getting that gem at the end felt rewarding, like you earned it. Seeing it fill in that little slot on the hub world, lovely. Felt good.
That feeling is completely gone. Now, you’ll go out to get all the crates, spend forever trying to get them all, only to get to the end of the level...and you miss one, or usually more than one. Which wouldn’t be a huge issue in itself, if not for 2 main problems.
  1. These levels are big. Way bigger than previous games. Heck, sometimes it feels like each level is the size of 3 standard Crash levels. They go on too long and almost always outstay their welcome. So, missing a crate is just a massive waste of time. You don’t have the feeling of, “I’ll just jump back in and get the missing crate”. It just becomes a feeling of, “ah, screw this” and you don’t bother.
  2. The missing crates are almost ALWAYS in bullshit locations. The game already has hidden gems, is it necessary to put these crates in such ridiculous locations too? Like the infamous tire one. And every single time there's an arrow crate, you can bet $1000 there will be a crate off screen. There’s no reason for these crates to bounce you so stupidly high outside of hiding crates, just....put em lower down and make Crash not bounce so high. And the game just loves to put these bouncy crates within a pile of normal crates so you spin into them and mess up. Every time there’s a pile of crates, just bounce off them, chances are there will be a crate off screen. Heck, I got the yellow gem this way and I didn’t even see it there prior. That’s how bad it is.
The game is just constantly doing stuff like this. Take the hidden gem on' No Dillo Dallying' for example...there is LITERALLY no way to ever know its there. There’s no visual clue, there’s nothing off about this scene to suggest a secret is there. You just, have to jump off a ledge you’d otherwise never jump off from and get lucky. Which, when there’s about 500 ledges like that in the stage…it’s not fun. Leaps of faith is the absolute epiphany of bad design.
Another thing they made painfully not fun, are the bonus rooms.
Why these are called bonus rooms I’ll never know. These are more difficult than the actual levels. Or more so, trial and error. Trial and error to breaking point.
In the later half the game, these bonus rooms became the bane of my existence. Almost every single one follows this formula. Get to the end, hit a metal ! box, go back to the start making sure you haven’t destroyed the wrong crates so you can’t get back, and repeat.
And the other bonus rooms usually involve, hitting a ! block, which then blocks you out of getting all the crates since you don’t know what’s gonna happen. So it’s just trial and error. And then after you do manage to get to the end, they’ll do something BS like sandwich a crate between a Nitro and TNT so you die on that and have to do it all over again. Fun right?
And that’s the problem up to this point, nothing about this is fun. BS crate locations, annoying overly complex bonus rooms, ridiculously placed secrets. And it’s not just a one off, it happens ALL THE TIME. Almost every single level. Eventually you just stop caring, why even attempt to get all the crates when you’ll no doubt miss one anyway?
So I play through the game, I’m desperately trying to find something to like. I WANT to love this game. I’ve been so hyped for this game more than anything this year… but no. I finish the game, and I feel nothing. Just relief that it’s over really. And I question if I even wanna play it again?
But alas, I trudge on.
Upon completing the game you get the triple spin, a mechanic made mostly for time trials. See, instead of unlocking the dash ability…which was fun. They replace it with this repetitive, draining and annoying spin mechanic…which isn’t fun. A theme of this game really.
So, in order to get a half decent time, you have to constantly hit the spin button in rhythm. 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3…constantly, ALL THE TIME. Making it hard to control and way more likely you’re gonna just spin into a TNT crate or some shit.
See, the time trials were fun in Crash 3 for a few reasons. 1) The dash made replaying levels more fun since it was a new way to play whilst keeping the core mechanics. It was Crash platforming, BUT FASTER 2) The levels were pretty short. If you died, it wasn’t a huge deal. Just try again, no problem.
Here, the levels are so long, the idea of dying is just nightmarish having to start from the beginning each time, that ‘one more try’ feeling is completely gone. Not only do you have to do the entire level in one life, you need to be fast, and constantly spinning. I just, don’t want to do this. So…I don’t enjoy the time trials anymore either.
Onto the next thing, the N.Verted levels.
These are just shameless. The idea of having a neat level filter is pretty cool in itself. But, the game treats these as entirely different stages….despite the fact that are IDENTICAL. They slap a photoshop filter over it, flip the screen, and make you get all the gems all over again. It just doubles the content of the game, but adds NOTHING of value. It is simply busy work. There’s enough shit in this game, I don’t need to do it all TWICE. Why not just have an unlockable filter for existing levels or something? Or just have one gem per N.Verted stage so it's a neat little challenge.
And man, this game is obsessed with making you replay the same levels. They milk it for all it’s worth. So, you have a basic run, then, box gem (you're probably not gonna get this first try), then, there’s the death gem (which you’ll probably not get cos you died trying to get the box gem). Then, you have the time trial relics, then the N.Sanely perfect Relic + flashback tapes. AND THEN you have the N.Verted stages, in which you have to get all the gems again, on the exact same level, but with a funky filter. BUT THEN, THERES MORE.
Some levels have an ‘alternative’ timeline. These start off pretty good, you play as a different character in a new mini level. However, these are usually short. After you complete their segment, guess what?….you have to REPLAY the original level as Crash AGAIN. Only at least it’s slightly different. Usually different crate layouts. But it’s still mostly recycled content…AND THEN, you have to do this AGAIN on the N.Verted version of the alternative timeline level, not even including all the gems and relics again. Man you’ll be playing some of these levels like, over 12 times just to do the bare minimal. And that’s not even counting the countless retries for the relics. They just milk these stages for all their worth. You’ll be glad to see the back of them.
Yes, there’s more to do…but it just feels like busy work. It’s simply…not fun. Unless simply crossing things off a list is fun to you.
That’s what this game does. It takes a fun idea, and ruins it. Bouncing on crates in succession? That’s fun. Now do it 10,000 times. You won’t find it fun then.
Doing giant jumps with your new mask ability? Pretty fun. Now do the entire level without hitting a single crate to get the blue gem. Not fun.
And the thing is, I never thought I’d be saying this but. The game is too hard. Not in the sense, I struggled to complete it, but in the sense…why is it this difficult? I understand Crash 1 was pretty hard at times… but, it’s not THAT hard. There’s a few hard levels towards the end really.
Crash 2 and 3 was never really very hard. Crash games are not defined by their difficulty. So why then, did they decide to focus so much on this aspect? Is it because people started comparing Crash to DarkSouls so they just ran with it? Look, I enjoy a hard game. I finished Super Meat Boy 100% for gods sake. This isn’t a case of me being shit at games. But…why did they go in this direction? I thought Crash was primarily a kids games. This is not for kids. Dingodile says bastard, that’s how you know.
See, there’s a fine line between difficulty, and bad design. And this game just shits all over that line. Take that polar bear level for instance. Now, if you just play the level with no intent to get crates, it’s pretty fun. But the moment you decide to get them…dear lord.
See, instead of just having single crates the game decides to clump them into groups of 4. So unless you hit them in a very specific way, one crate will remain. And this happens constantly. Sometimes you’ll hit the two crates above and not the ones below. How does that make sense? Come on. The only purpose for the crates to be grouped like this is to be annoying.
It’s weird because, I’m normally one to rise to the challenge. I love Crash, surely more Crash is a good thing right? See this is my conflict, why don’t I like this game? It’s bigger, it’s got a ton to do, it’s difficult. I should be in heaven.
But there’s one problem…one giant glaring problem.
It’s not fun. It’s exhausting. Toys For Bob clearly have no experience making difficult games and it shows.
I finished the game, I’m currently trying to get 100% and I look back, and reflect on my time. And, did I enjoy it? Well, there are parts I enjoyed but on the whole…not really. And when I’m missing 1 box for the 100th time, or having to reload the stage and sit through a super long loading screen every time I die for the Perfect Relic… I’m not having a good time. And honestly? I don’t even like the stages enough to warrant replaying them as much as the game demands. They kinda drag on and outstay their welcome the first time. Never mind the 10th time.
So yeah. That’s Crash 4.
Not really sure who this game is for. Hardcore Crash fans? They will probably find the completionist aspect draining. Casual gamers will get their ass kicked. I don’t know who will enjoy this game. Sadistic people I guess? People who think a game being hard makes it good. There’s like a weird ego thing when it comes to hard games. Git Gud will probably be in the comments a lot.

I really really worry for the future of the Crash series now. Sales don’t seem great, outside of a few circles, people seem pretty mixed on the game honestly. I think the average player is not going to enjoy this game. And, it will only hurt the franchise moving forward. A hyper demanding, bloated gauntlet of a game is not the right direction for Crash. I really worry this is the beginning of the end yet again for Crash Bandicoot. …again…not to be dramatic.
Anyway, that’s it. Think I got most of it off my chest. I think this is how The Last Jedi made a lot of people feel. This is my Last Jedi Moment.
I think I like Wrath of Cortex more…. And that’s just sad.
